Strong Passwords and Password Managers for iPhone

With the news of over 6 million LinkedIn passwords being stolen, it is becoming more apparent to more people how important it is to use good password practices. People who've had their passwords stolen are not just having to change them on LinkedIn. They're having to change them on every other site that they used the same password.

In general, it's a good idea not to use the same password on different sites, especially if those sites have anything valuable on them. Banks and other financial sites probably are the first you probably think of. What you may not think of, is how important it is that you don't reuse your email password.

Strong passwords are important too, because they are less susceptible to a brute force attack. However, strong passwords are harder to remember. If you have an iPhone, this is where a password manager such as SplashID, 1Password, or LastPass can help. Just make sure you use a strong password (but one that you can remember) for your password manager.

Also, while we are on the subject of passwords, it's a good idea to use a strong password to lock your iPhone. To do this, go to Settings, General, and Passcode Lock. Then turn off Simple Passcode as shown in the picture on the right. This will prompt you for a new passcode that is not a simple, 4-digit number.
